Clay art projects for kids are fun-filled activities that can be educational as well. Let your kids play with the dough and create something that they find interesting.
Clay art is one among the most favorite activities of kids. We have spent our childhood playing with clay, making various things out of it with the help of our teachers and parents. Clay art is fun and educational, as these projects help to bridge the gap between the virtual and real world.
By molding clay into a particular object, the kid is getting a chance to see, touch, and feel the real object. He/she gets an opportunity to learn about different colors, shapes, and objects. Given below are some clay art ideas for kids.
Fruits and Vegetables
Materials Required
- Clay
- Vegetables and Fruits
- Paintbrushes
- Paints
Procedure
Give each child a lump of ready-mixed clay. Ask them to soften the clay by kneading it thoroughly. Get some vegetables and fruits such as eggplant, ladies finger, banana, apple, grapes, and pomegranate, etc. Ask each kid to take his/her favorite fruit or vegetable. Let them mold the clay in the shape of the fruit or vegetable. The sculpted pieces can be painted, when they get completely dry. This might take one or two days. Clay craft is complete fun with different shapes and colors. You may also ask the kids to create anything of their choice. Write your kid’s name on a piece of paper. Each alphabet must have a height of at least four inches, and a double border with a gap of half an inch. Take a clay lump and knead it properly. Ask your kid to make long strips of clay, and shape them like the alphabets written on the paper. Place a strip over each letter, and shape it accordingly. These clay letters can be removed and painted once they get dry. You may also stick them on a thick construction paper. This is a popular educative clay art project for kids, and they will surely love this work. You may also replace the alphabets with numbers.

Fill the plastic bucket (or bowl) with water. Cover the table with a plastic covering, before you place the bucket on it. Knead the clay to make some balls, and distribute them among the kids. Ask the kids to try shaping the clay into different kinds of boats. Place some pictures of boats in front of them. Make sure that the base is broad enough, so that the boat floats in water.
